Feeling stressed with modern-day living?
The discipline of BKS Iyengar Yoga is considered to be a powerful tool which when practised correctly can relieve the stresses of modern-day life. This in turn can help you promote total physical and spiritual well-being.
Why choose Iyengar Yoga?
Technique, sequence, timing and props
The other vital ingredient in choosing Iyengar Yoga over other styles of Yoga is that it takes a person 3 years to study, practice, sit assessments before becoming a certified Iyengar teacher, not a weekend, not 6 weeks, not 200 hrs – 3years for the first level. Which means that you are in the hands of a knowledgeable, competent instructor who can help you accomplish what you hope to with Yoga.
Iyengar differs from the other styles of yoga by these four key elements:
Technique – precision of body alignment through the performance of asana and pranayama
Sequence – practising specific combinations of asanas and breathing exercises correctly ensure the desired positive effect
Timing – is defined by the time spent in each pose or pranayama
Props – work as supports and the reasons for using props include:
– Increases the duration of staying in an asana
– Increases confidence in the practitioners
– Increases subjective knowledge of accurate alignment
– Increases range of motion
– Help to achieve an asana that is not possible without the prop
Iyengar Yoga classes at Impression Studio with Tracy Sue
While practising Iyengar Yoga at Impression, I will help you to focus on body alignment. Iyengar itself is characterised by great attention to detail which we will all strive to achieve in my classes.
Everybody has to start somewhere so don’t be intimidated by your lack of flexibility or co-ordination. One of the great facets of Iyengar is the use of props such as bolsters, benches, chairs, blocks, straps, sand bags and ropes (Yoga Kurunta) which work as support allowing even beginners to experience asanas more easily and fully than might otherwise be possible without several years of practice. The props used in Iyengar also enable injured, elderly, tired or ill students to enjoy the benefits of otherwise strenuous asanas.
Come and try the Yoga ropes they are a privilege to work with. If you would like to try an Iyengar Yoga class, give me a call.
Please note I do not mix disciplines. I teach Iyengar Yoga in the Iyengar Yoga Class and I teach Classical Pilates in the Pilates Class. I am passionate about both of these disciplines.
